Title: Doors
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bittersplendor
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Rating: G
Summary/Quote: Harry fights for many things, and Draco’s not one of them.

Doors

Draco always wants his doors closed. It’s a simple compulsion, to hear that soft click of a lock, having something solid between him and everything else. It’s just something about them, they’re meant to be closed, otherwise what purpose do they serve? He can’t stand it when doors are left open, they’re like presenting an invitation, come in, and Draco most definitely does not like people coming in on his space, when he can just simply shut them out. It’s much easier to shut everything out.

+

Harry likes his doors open. There’s something about open doors that make him feel free, like he could get out anytime he wanted to, and no one can stop him. He can just run out, and it’s good knowing that there’s always a way out. Always a way out from everything he fears and anything that can harm him. Closed doors make him feel slightly restless, and Harry wonders if he’s a little claustrophobic. He sleeps with his back to the doors of his dorm.

+

They always have to knock. Draco has announced that to anyone who might want to see him. They should always knock before they enter, even if the door was left ajar, or wasn’t locked, but Draco made sure it always was. But you never know, and Draco was never one to take risks.

+

People come and go, and Harry lets them. Harry likes giving people choices, would never want them to be kept somewhere they don’t want to be in anyway. He likes his doors open, it’s like a choice, something that they can pick anytime. If they want to come in then they can, and if they don’t then they can pass it by. The cupboard under the stairs was always closed, and Harry is a good enough person not to let anyone feel that kind of entrapment.

+

Harry’s door is always open, and one night in the Charms classroom is no exception. Draco sees it, steps through, and watches until Harry notices. What are you doing here?, Harry’s voice isn’t angry, just curious. Draco doesn’t think he needs to answer that, because Harry notices all the time he watches anyway. So he just smiles and thinks that replying is too much of a risk, even if there isn’t anything at stake anymore, and leaves.

+

When Draco finds Harry at his doorway, without knocking, he’s surprised. Then he’s angry. The door is open, and Draco hates that. With a glare, Draco stands up from his chair and goes up to Harry to grab hold of the knob behind him, shut it closed. But Harry catches his arm, and kisses him. There isn’t the soft click of a lock, but Draco’s ears are pounding too loud to care.

+

Draco decides there’s nothing wrong if you take a risk and it turns out fine. He kissed Harry back, and it’s alright. He needs something good in his life, more than anything, right now. There’s a war, and everybody needs something to fight for.

+

Harry fights for many things, and Draco’s not one of them. Harry fights for his friends, and for freedom, and for himself. But Harry thinks that if you love someone, then you have to trust him enough to believe that he’ll be there at the end. Draco’s always been there, and he fights for things like revenge, and he once said he’d like to fight for Harry, but Harry only answers that he’s mad, and ravishes him as if saying that you’re mine, you don’t need to fight, you’re too beautiful to bleed. And Harry's been wrong countless times before, but with this he knows he's right. Draco isn't only worth fighting for, he thinks. He's worth dying for.

+

On the nights when the cold seems unbearable, and promises hang in the air like clouds waiting to burst, Draco sits by his bed and leaves the door open. The dungeons are cold, and maybe he’s a little scared, but promises are meant to be kept, and Draco has believed in far too much. He falls asleep after a while, and moments later Harry comes in and wraps himself around Draco in a most possessive way, whispers promises and even more promises, not forgetting to close the door behind him.

The soft click of a lock is heard in the deafening silence, and they’re the safest they’ve ever been.

Wow. thank you. I'm new at writing slash, and your comment was really helpful. i'm not sure if i changed that line well, and if it still doesn't work out, please tell me. I'll edit it again. :)

I hope you don't mind if i add you as my friend, because i have none yet. i know no one in real life who reads slash. which is sad.

Nope, I don't mind at all - one of my favorite things about livejournal is that it allows people to go and friend based on interests and get to know other people.

which is sad
Yes, it is very sad - I have one real life friend who reads slash, but no one else... which is too bad... they just don't understand the boylove. ;)
